water, then go berserk, melting fly line off stout reels as they head toward far reaches

King salmon start arriving in late May and hold up in holes until mid August when they start to spawn, they are easily seen even into September because of their beautiful crimson red color.

fly fishing for alaska king salmon Heavy shooting taper fly lines &
large, weighted flies with sharp
strong hooks are needed for
proper presentation!  We use 10
- 12 weight fly rods in order to
cast the desired tackle as well as
to exert enough pressure to have
a prayer of turning the head of a
40+ lb. King.

Reels: Large! 3.5-4.0 inch spools. & a strong, dependable
drag system.

Fly line/Leader: 10-12 weight
compatible fly line w/ shooting
taper (150 yds). Leaders are
typically short for Kings, 14-18 lb.
mono, 4-6 ft in length.

The excitement and thrill of playing and fighting a king salmon while you are moving up and down the shore dancing in and out of the water and trying to turn them during their long runs, cannot be matched by fishing out of a boat in a large river its like the difference between night and day.
